About Varsha

Varsha Bhatia graduated from the Sir J.J.College of Architecture, Bombay in 1978 with a degree in Architecture. She worked as an Architectural Assistant in Bombay for 3 years with a leading practice in architecture / interior design.

Varsha moved to England in 1982 with her husband and worked in a Cambridge based architectural practice.

In 1992, she developed her interest in art by designing and creating hand-made greeting cards. Her styles were mainly based on painted Indian motifs combines with delicate paper cut work. Latterly, she broadened these ideas to include Western motifs.

Varsha developed these concepts further using the medium of watercolour paintings, incorporating her unique style of paper cutting. This creates a three dimensional effect within her paintings. She utilises her architectural background to draw ideas for her artwork, focusing on Indian as well as Western Architecture. She has travelled across India, Europe, America and Egypt, visiting various historical monuments, studying their details, styles and atmosphere. She paints buildings, giving particular attention to detail. She has also developed musical themes using a combination of paper collage and watercolours.
